Specializes in:
The Bray furnishes studio space and facilities for ceramic artists of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and aesthetic approaches through a year-round residency program. The Bray also offers a full range of community ceramics classes, serving both adults and children, and annually brings national and international artists to Helena to conduct workshops on topics as diverse as wood firing and majolica decorating.

The Archie Bray Foundation is celebrating 50 Years 1951-2001. Founded in 1951, the Bray is a non-profit, educational institution dedicated to the enrichment of the ceramic arts, offering residencies and specialized workshops to ceramic artists from around the world. Located on the 26-acre site of the former Western Clay Manufacturing Company, the Bray facilities include year-round resident studios, site-specific sculpture, community class facilities, a sales gallery, a summer warehouse gallery, extensive kiln facilities, and a retail ceramic supply business.

Peter Voullkos and Rudy Autio were the Bray's founding Resident artists. Ever since, the Bray has been a premier workplace for leading ceramic artists and educators including Ken Ferguson, David Shaner, Kurt Weiser, Akio Takamori, John and Andrea Gill, Jun Kaneko, Matt Metz, Linda Sikora, Richard Notkin, Robert Harrison, Chris Staley and current Resident Director Josh DeWeese--all of whom continue to define the field.

For nearly half a century, the Bray has provided international leadership in the ceramic arts. Throughout this time the Bray has sustained an environment of artistic exchange, nurturing the ongoing experiment of free and individual expression. The Bray's history parallels the development of ceramic arts in the United States.

The primary mission of the Archie Bray Foundation is to make available for all who are sincerely interested in any of the ceramic arts, a fine place to work.
